How to Check Whether AI Assistants Recommend Your Business

October 12, 20264 min read

More customers now start with a question, not a search. They type "who makes good custom furniture in Lahore?" or "which clinic near me does weekend appointments?" into an AI assistant and read the short answer it gives. If your business isn't in that answer, the customer may never reach your website at all.

The good news is that you can check where you stand without any special software. This guide walks you through a simple monthly check and the most common reasons a business gets left out.

Step 1: Write down the questions your customers actually ask

Start with ten to fifteen real questions. Pull them from WhatsApp chats, phone calls, enquiry forms and what your sales team hears every day. Good examples look like this:

  • "Best [your service] in [your city]"
  • "How much does [your service] cost in Pakistan?"
  • "Who can deliver [your product] to [city] with cash on delivery?"
  • "[Your service] for small businesses near me"

Mix broad questions with very specific ones. The specific ones are often where a smaller business has the best chance of being named.

Step 2: Ask several assistants, the same way a customer would

Ask each question in two or three of the AI assistants your customers are likely to use. Use a fresh chat each time, so earlier questions don't steer the answer. Write down three things for every question:

  1. Was your business mentioned?
  2. Which competitors were mentioned instead?
  3. Did the answer link or refer to any website, directory or review page?

Keep this in a simple sheet with the date. Answers change from week to week, so one check tells you little. A record over a few months shows you the trend.

Step 3: Check what the assistant says about you directly

Next, ask about your business by name: "What does [your business] do?" and "Where is [your business] located?" Read the answer carefully. Common problems include:

  • Old phone numbers or addresses
  • Services you no longer offer
  • Your business confused with another one that has a similar name
  • No answer at all, because the assistant can't find enough clear information

Each of these points to a gap in what's written about you online.

Why businesses get left out

AI assistants build their answers from information they can find and trust. A business is usually left out for one of these reasons.

The website doesn't say clearly what you do. If your homepage says "We deliver excellence" instead of "We build business websites in Lahore," there is nothing specific to pick up. Plain, specific sentences help.

Your details don't match across the web. If your name, address and phone number are different on your website, your Google Business Profile and your social pages, an assistant has a harder time trusting any of them.

There are no clear answers to common questions. Pages that answer real customer questions directly, such as pricing ranges, delivery areas and what's included, give assistants something to quote.

Others don't mention you. Reviews, local directories and articles that name your business help show that you exist and what you're known for.

The site is hard to read for machines. Pages that load slowly, hide text inside images or lack basic structure are harder for any system to understand.

What to fix first

You don't need to fix everything at once. Work in this order:

  1. Make your core pages specific. Say what you do, for whom and where, in the first few lines of your homepage and service pages.
  2. Make your business details consistent everywhere they appear.
  3. Add an FAQ section that answers the questions from Step 1 in short, direct paragraphs.
  4. Ask happy customers for honest reviews on the platforms they already use.
  5. Repeat your monthly check and compare it with last month's results.

Be realistic

No one can guarantee that an AI assistant will name your business. These systems change often, and each one decides its answers in its own way. What you can control is how clear, consistent and useful the information about your business is. That is also what helps real customers once they find you.
